Kindergarten Service Project

Service Projects are meant to be student driven, so each year has varied from the last. In the past, Kindergarten Service Projects have focused on the environment with visits to Tree People, as well as on the homeless in our neighborhoods through the writing of letters to Mayor Garcetti along with raising money to make Care Kits. One year students raised money to help build a music room at an orphanage in Tijuana through the organization Corazon de Vida. The kinders that year were so moved by the Middle School presentations on these annual trips to Mexico that they wanted to be involved too. Mrs. Mottaz and her family went on the trip to deliver the supplies and donations. Another year, students expressed their concerns about the effects of that year's wildfires and the work of first responders. We studied fire safety and took a trip to the local fire station to learn from the experts. Donations that year went to the Red Cross and the students learned about all of the ways the Red Cross helps those affected by disasters. We look forward to seeing how our students learn and yearn to be activists in their community.
