Mythology Bee

The 12th Annual
Wesley School Mythology Bee will take place on Wednesday, April 22, 2019
Qualifying quiz - first or second week in March

The Bee is purely for the joy of Greek mythology and each year more and more students want to participate. In fact the students are so knowledgeable we are changing the format from single elimination starting with multiple choice questions then straight answers, to double elimination straight answers only.

Theoi Mythology: A thorough online encyclopedia of the Greek gods and myths.
GreekMythology: More than you could ever want to know.
MythWeb: Easy to use site for elementary students.

The History of the Bee

Disney/Hyperion, publisher of the Percy Jackson books by Rick Riordan, created a National Mythology Bee in 2010 for students in grades 4-8. A former Wesley student brought it to the attention of Ms. O'Callaghan and she registered the school to participate.

The event was so much fun we decided to create our own and make it an annual Wesley event.

Interested students take a 25 question fill-in-the-blanks quiz early March before spring break. The students with the top 20 scores qualify for the main event in April. Those students are encouraged to immerse themselves in Greek mythology.

On the day of the bee, the contestants dress in Greek chitons and peplos and are provided with laurel wreaths. The event is held in the morning instead of Community and lasts 60 - 90 minutes.

Students are selected in random order to answer a question. The format is double elimination. The questions all require an answer. No multiple choice now.

Students and guests cheer the scholars on until only one remains to claim the trophy!
