Welcome to Mr. George’s English Language Arts Class! Since my job is to teach you how to read and write, and you already know how to do both of those things, this should be a relatively easy class. Well, it isn’t exactly that simple. We will learn how to develop ideas analytically and read for subtext. After all, without subtext, we could easily replace Hamlet with The Lion King, and The Odyssey with Shrek. We won’t do that, but we will compare and contrast archetypes with modern examples and analyze the authorial intent, social critiques, and various critical theories applicable to the text.
The website is here for your convenience. I suggest you check it daily. You are responsible for ALL work that is covered in class (regardless of whether or not it is posted on the website). It is your responsibility to copy the homework posted on the white board at the start of each class. If you miss class due to illness please email me or contact one of your classmates to find out what you missed.
I look forward to an intellectually stimulating year.
Sincerely,
Mr. George
