Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, & Belonging
Mission & Philosophy
Diversity, equity, inclusivity, and belonging are central commitments of The Wesley School that strengthen the fabric of our community and deepen our students’ learning. The principle that frames our school’s mission statement, “within a community of belonging,” is best expressed and strengthened by collective and explicit commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all areas of school programming and school life.
At The Wesley School, we believe a true community of belonging is one where every individual feels seen, valued, and supported for who they are. Belonging is not just a feeling–it is a practice, rooted in intentional action, mutual respect, and a celebration of differences. We recognize that this work is ongoing, and we honor the evolving journeys each person takes toward deeper understanding.
We are committed to cultivating an environment where the diverse identities and lived experiences of our students, families and school professionals are welcomed and respected. This includes–though not limited to–race, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, religion, socioeconomic status, family structure, and ability.
By embracing the full spectrum of human experience and grounding our understandings in the principles of intersectionality, we prepare our students to engage thoughtfully and compassionately with the world around them.
Creating a community of belonging means actively working to ensure that everyone not only has a seat at the table, but also a voice that is heard and a story that matters. It is through this shared commitment that we nurture confident, curious learners and compassionate, engaged citizens.

"Learning about social justice, identity, diversity, and action in Kindergarten helped me open up and develop my voice. It helped me explore and learn and read more so I could make sense of what wasn't making sense."
