The Wesley Outdoor Education Program has expanded, and we are excited to share the details and the thinking behind its development with you.
Our 8th graders participate in a remarkable trip to London the week prior to spring break, augmenting elements of the English curriculum, specifically Shakespeare. The London trip provides those students who attend with a remarkable experience, one that enhances their participation in our 8th grade program both socially and academically.
The outdoor education program now includes a day trip for 3rd graders tied to their study of Native Americans, expanded one-night trips for 4th and 5th graders with science and social studies emphasis, 6th and 7th grade fall and spring trips based on team building and leadership, an 8th grade fall trip and a culminating 8th grade trip, aligned with the 8th grade curriculum, with a year’s notice as to the destination. All these programs are included in tuition.
Trips such as these, that grow out of the school curriculum, allow teachers the opportunity to incorporate the pending experience into their teaching, providing a remarkable opportunity for applying learned information, building independence, creating global awareness, forming even stronger friendship bonds, and providing new venues for cognitive development through authentic experiences.
We hope you share our enthusiasm for these experiential enhancements.
