Welcome to P.E.!
Welcome to The Wesley School Physical Education (PE) department! Here at Wesley, we support all student athletes for their individual achievements, as well as for their team efforts and we push every student to be an athlete, regardless of his/her natural ability level.
Wesley students have a great time learning traditional sports/games and participating in other more outside-the-box class activities that are developmentally appropriate for their age level.
Physical Education that fosters a culture of:
In Coach Leroy’s class all challenges are met with “Yes, let's!” Units of study stress collaborative team membership where ALL kids find strength. Core games and activities include Mindful warm-ups, Parachute Community, Eternity Dodgeball, and Crab Soccer. Jump rope, Hula Hoop, Zumba Dance, and Yoga are designed to be inclusive of the kids who may not excel in traditional competitive athletics. Pursuit and evasion games encompass Parachute Cat and Mouse, Giants, Wizards, and Goblins, Frogs and Flies, and Amoeba Tag; while After-school sports relatedcurriculum includes Speed Football, Pass-ket Ball, Distance/timed running, and Volleyball.
The social-emotional concept is that we’re like birds that fly in a V formation— who do so because the flapping motion of each bird creates an upward lift whereby the entire flock is made more aerodynamic and proficient as a unit. This protocol lends itself to a communal emotional security that we all will make it. The ultimate goal for the year is to teach the HUMANITY in athletics regardless of ability so our graduates become stewards of the world. Coach Leroy’s grading scale is as follows:
Follows directions= 40%
P.E. uniform/attendance= 20%
- The mile
- The shuttle run
