2-4-6-8 First Grade is REALLY GREAT!!!!!!

"“My mother told me to be a lady.

And for her, that meant be your own person, be independent."

--Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Dear First Grade Families,

Start stretching and warming up first graders, because Friday, January 25th we will be JOGGING FOR ANIMALS at the WESLEY JOG-A-THON!!! The money we raise from this service learning event goes to help animals at the STAR Eco Station and the Wildlife Learning Center. Come cheer us on! This Friday is a FREE DRESS DAY... dress to JOG!!!!! And it is an early dismissal day!

Take 3 seconds and make somebody's day, year, life, better... STOP-THINK-CHOOSE- KIND WORDS!!! This week is National No-Name Calling Week. We will learn about the power of our words. Each day we talk about making mindful, “wise owl” choices with our words and actions. We become aware and show we care by being allies, advocates and activists. We will learn about words people like to hear and names they like to be called. One of our helpful habits is to practice being “kind to our minds” and having a growth mindset. It’s just as important to be friendly to ourselves as it is to be kind and friendly to others. Let’s make it a Wise Owl Word Power Week!! (month, year, always!)

This is a short but busy week. We will not have a weekly word study spelling list or math facts fluency quiz on Friday. In Reading Workshop we will continue to focus on non-fiction reading skills and habits in connection with MARP. We will reread for details, read diagrams, locate information and reread in a smooth, informative voice. In Writing Workshop we are focusing in on our non-fiction writing skills, locating information and taking notes as well as practicing our rereading and editing skills. In Math we continue to practice measurement, reading and recording information on graphs, and frames and arrows patterns.

Thank you for aaaalll your support!
